Harari Basket (Mesob) Ethiopia. Traditional woven basket by the famous Harari tribe, renowned for their intricate aesthetic vibrant designs. The upper part of the basket with the lid has triangle patterns in beautiful vibrant colors. The exterior of the basket bears very light pink and grey hues. The baskets were used for presentation of food, storage, decorative purposes and also given as gifts for ceremonial occasions. It's made of natural fibres from leaves, grass, dyes & leather. Early 20th century.

An outstandiing Harari tribe basket with exquisite vibrant classic traditional hues. Baskets are important to Harari women, symbolizing their identity and life. Baskets are passed from mother to daughter . They show affordable luxury and good taste. Baskets also have decorative value and show the housewife’s skill in displaying them. They are used in social activities, especially for exchanging gifts during important life events. The materials are Agergera straw for weaving, Migir study grass used for the core of the coil, Querma barley stalks used for wrapping the coil, natural dye and leather. The diameter is 69 cm. The basket was collected in the 70s.
