A Trio of Gourds, Maasai Tribe, Kenya

Honey/Beer Container, Marakwet Tribe, Kenya

 A trio of  maasai gourds  featuring geometric patterns with wonderful brown patina.  One gourd is adorned with glass beads. All the gourds comes in customised metal stands.  Late 20th  Century, measurements are H 20cm x W 10 cm, H 18 cm x W 10 cm, H 16 cm x W 10m,  Price £350

Honey/Beer Container, Marakwet Tribe, Kenya

Outstanding Tripod container/vessel used for beer/honey.  It features visible repair  that confirms  its history and usage.  It  has some minor crack which are  natural with wood, but  it is generally in good condition.  Early 20th century, measurements are H 22.5 cm x W 17cm. Two Milk Gourds, Maasai Tribe,Kenya


A pair of Maasai milk containers/gourds, consisting of one extra-large and one smaller gourd. The strap on the extra-large gourd is undone, and there is a crack on the gourd. Otherwise, both gourds are in good condition. These milk gourds are made from calabash, adorned with glass beads and leather.

Measurements are H 85 cm x W 10 cm, H 30 cm x W 13 cm.

Spice/Butter Container, Gurage , Ethiopia

                     

This exquisite container or vessel, crafted by the Gurage people of Ethiopia, was designed for storing butter or spices. It is made of clay with a rattan base and a rattan lid, which is strapped with leather and closed with a cowrie shell. The surface features intricate patterns and designs, and the conical elongated lid adds to its charm.  Late 20th Century, measurements are  H 25 cm x W 11 cm.

This exquisite wooden African mortar showcases intricate, detailed patterns. The rim is reinforced with metal, adding character and durability. Crafted from beautiful solid wood, it boasts a rich brown patina, a testament to its age and usage.  Its has visible  crack along the rim, a natural features of  wooden objects. Mid 20th century, measurements are H 19 cm x W 17 cm. Price £500

Exquisite Milk pail with very rich patina from the famous Himba tribe. The milk container is not only a symbol of nourishment but also conveys the  powerful wisdom of fertility and wealth. It's beautiful decorated in geometrical patterns. The container does bear visible crack which is natural with wooden objects. It is in good condition and made of wood and leather string. Early 20th century. 

Measurements: 27cm x 20cm.

A Tuareg bowl from Mali, with relief carved star and crescent. The antique bowl has visible repair, which adds to its character. It is made of wood with wire repair. 

Late 19-20th Century.

Two tutsi tribe milk container, they feature visible metal repair work which enhances their character and charm.  The smaller lidded vessel bears an attractive patch  work which adds to its intrigue.  They are made of  wood, metal and hessian for the lid, measurements are  H 43 cm x W 10 cm, H 36 cm x W 8 cm.   Late 20th Century. A pair gourds Containers, Senufo Tribe, Ivory Coast

                         

The lidded gourd vessels are crafted from large, smooth gourds. The rims are reinforced with bark, creating a striking contrast with the rest of the gourd’s body. The vessels feature stitching on the lids and rims, adding to their character. The large gourd has a visible small crack. The gourds are made from vegetable calabash. Early 20th century, dimensions

are 30 cm, 14 cm.  Price £325 for the pair
